“I have a feeling of being under water, when I look at my pictures…. liquid, beautiful and suffocating.”

Kirsten Gregers is an artist, born in Denmark, and she graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1999 and has been living in the south of France ever since.

“It is about longing – mute longing for moments of presence, true presence – moments of light”

I photograph, so I am – could be the saying of Kirsten Gregers Jensen.
Kirsten does not photograph to document places, events or actions. Her pictures are not stories told. You are looking in vain for the point of the story, the moral or the message. Every picture from the hand of Kirsten is art rinsed of any intention.
“I search for the simple and elementary. Fire. Ocean, Earth. Wind”

Photography is Kirsten’s way to manifest her being in this world. Click. I am. Click, I am. Click. If there is a picture taken, there must also be a person behind the camera.

“ Beauty is the locomotion of my work”

Kirsten’s pictures are aesthetic, but never aestheticizing. They should be perceived as an artistic expression of life. When Kirsten pulls the trigger it is emotion being documented. At times the emotion is distilled by further treatment of the image. The motive is always an emotional x-ray of Kirsten launched in the world.

“It is about seeing, being seen and seeing oneself.”
